Oh The Difference a Year Can Make!

Last night I had my High School Winter Concert, and it went great! It felt good to be able to play my saxophone without having to worry about my asthma stopping me. It also reminded me of how grateful I am for my health, considering last year was a totally different story at this time.
Last year at this time I had just made the Varsity Basketball team, was practicing my saxophone for a competition, was rehearsing for my Winter Play Performance, and was studying for midterms when I became sick. I got a virus that destroyed the lining of my lungs, and it landed me in the hospital for the first time in my life. It took over 3 months for the lining of my lungs to grow back, and I was out of school for a month.

couldn't play basketball, could't play my saxophone, I couldn't perform, and I could't go to school. It was a horrible feeling. For over a month I had to wear a mask everywhere I went, and trust me, as a middle schooler that was hard. I feel I'm very lucky that I have such a supporting family, and that I went to a school where nobody ever made me feel bad about wearing a mask.
Now I feel even luckier, because I am back to being healthy. I can play my saxophone, I can perform, and I can continue going through school with straight A's. I thank God for my health, and can't believe how much difference a year has made. Trust me when I say this: without your health, you have absolutely nothing.
