There's no doubt that when my kids catch a cold it's a downward spiral that leads to asthma flares, sinusitis and missed days at school. They often need a steroid burst and antibiotics to treat their symptoms. The entire ordeal takes weeks to resolve. This includes visits to our pediatrician, pulmonologist and ENT. My kids actually like going to the ENT to get their sinuses drained. We call our ENT Dr. Roto Rooter! LOL! But I get it...imagine having your asthma flared AND not be able to breathe through your nose? I have come to accept that my kids immune response to the common cold is different from a child who doesn't have asthma. This article explains it all quite well! Hoping this research leads to new asthma treatments! Until then, prevention is key so lets all do our part by washing our hands, getting our flu shots and staying home when we are sick! This mom will thank you!
